In celebration of our 30th anniversary, City Satay reflects on the cherished memories and milestones of our journey, including the challenges and triumphs we’ve faced as a company. Most importantly, we are deeply grateful to our customers, who have walked alongside us over the past 30 years, continuously supporting and inspiring us to grow and improve.

As part of our commitment to giving back to the community, we aim to raise awareness about dementia in Singapore. To support this cause, we’ve partnered with EnableAsia, a social enterprise, to create three unique shopping bag designs. These artworks are not only iconic and nostalgic but also serve as meaningful memory triggers for individuals living with dementia.

All proceeds from the sales of these shopping bags will go directly to EnableAsia to support their social events and initiatives. We sincerely appreciate your generous contributions and unwavering support.

Green bag

Almost 80% of Singaporeans live in HDB estates. Despite Singapore’s small size, each estate holds its own unique history, stories, and fascinating facts. Take a moment to pick an estate and engage someone in a meaningful conversation about it. Talk about the interesting structures, iconic buildings, best hawker foods and maybe even key events that had happened in that estate. Such interactions can help stimulate brain activity and bring cherished memories to life.

Green is a calming color that promotes relaxation by reducing central nervous system activity and helping individuals feel at ease. Notably, green is also the last color that people with dementia lose the ability to recognize. For this reason, it makes an ideal uniform color for care workers.

Brown Bag

Satay is a traditional food with a rich history, offering many varieties that reflect Singapore’s multicultural and multiracial heritage. In the 1970s, satay became synonymous with the iconic Satay Club at Esplanade, near Queen Elizabeth Walk. Today, similar satay hotspots can be found at Satay by the Bay and Lau Pa Sat, where the mouthwatering aroma and savory flavors continue to captivate both locals and visitors alike.

Why not spark a conversation with your loved ones about the different types of satay and discover which one takes the crown as the ultimate favorite? It’s a delicious way to relive memories and celebrate this beloved food.

White Bag

Do you remember the days of enjoying Ice Ball, eating it straight from our hands as it was lovingly prepared by uncles with pushcarts? Those simpler times gave way to a more hygienic version—Ice Kachang. “Kachang” is Malay for “nut” or “bean,” and this delightful dessert is a colorful treat made with jellies, red beans, and attap chee (the seeds of the nipah palm). It’s topped with a mountain of shaved ice, drizzled with vibrant syrups and evaporated milk, and often crowned with creamed corn.

Ask the elders in your family to share their memories of Ice Ball or Ice Kachang and describe how they enjoyed these iconic desserts. Better still, ask child to strike up the conversation. It’s a wonderful way to bridge generations and relive cherished moments. Expand the discussion to include other traditional favorites like Cheng Teng, Bo Bo Cha Cha and don’t forget Pulut Hitam too.
